Postcards #001: Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar
Dedicating this posts to the nostalgia this place has made me feel.
I bought my first film camera last 2020, but I only got the opportunity to use it when my family and I spent my birthday in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bagac, Bataan last year. It was our first family vacation after the pandemic hits the world.
There was some kind of melancholic feeling about this place. Probably because these houses were built originally in other places in the Philippines and were just bought and restored here in Las Casas, or because the peace this place has given me was only momentarily. I guess, the nostalgia and the quietness of the place have given me this much comfort.
As a person who took comfort in the sound of the waves, it was a delight that they have a beach area. It was nice just sitting by the shore, having your feet feeling the waves, and getting covered by sand. This was like the cherry on top of a very nice cake. More reason to come back again here.
Beginnings were always hard. That was the case for me and film photography. Prior to owning a film camera, I only relied on film-ish app in my camera or edited them to look film-ish. The anticipation of what my shots would look like once developed is one of the joys of capturing these moments with a film camera. (Although the films are really expensive now)
Cameras and films used:
Fuji Zoom Cardia 700
Kodak M35 (Toy Camera)
Kodak Gold, Fujicolor C200 (Expired), and Fujicolor 100 (Expired)
Films were processed at Sunny16 Lab.
Thank you so much for reading! Do you use film cameras too? How’s the experience? I’m still a beginner in this area, and I wouldn’t mind knowing some more tips, especially on what good films to try. :)
